Yes, I’ve done this. You’ve done this. But now it’s reaching epidemic proportions that are clogging our communication channels and further degrading our collective signal-to-noise ratio. There’s something about the volume and urgency of long email threads that inspire us to chime in without actually reading them.
As feline philosopher Hobbes once noted, “Maybe we can eventually make language a complete impediment to understanding.” The same is true of email. Let’s all vow to stop this dangerous practice (or at least make fun of others who do).
